Meaning of the CE-mark

The CE-mark stands for the conformity of a product with the essential requirements of one or more EU-directive(s).

It addresses the national market surveillance authorities and symbolizes the declaration of the manufacturer or importer that all legal regulations, i.e. all relevant EU-directives, are met. It is affixed by the manufacturer or importer, within their personal responsibility, on the product or its packaging and is the pre-requisite for putting a product into circulation within the single european market.

The CE-mark is neither a quality mark nor a conformity mark. It is also not a certification mark and thus can neither be assigned nor revoked.

It has a common meaning, the compliance with the legal requirements and stands for different contents, according to the topic of the respective EU-directive.

By affixing the CE-mark, a manufacturer or supplier indicates that a construction product (also) meets the requirements of the Construction Products Directive. This means the compliance with a „harmonized“ European Standard (hEN) or European Technical Approval  (ETA) together with the application of the system of attestation of conformity according to the respective decision by the Commission of the European Union.
