EUROCODES and Construction Products Directive
According to the construction Products Directive, structures are fit for use if they fullfil the six essential requirements listed in the directive. Those include "Mechanical resistance and stability", "Safety in case of fire" and "Safety in use".
The EUROCODES describe procedures to design/calculate components which a relevant for a structure. Based on these procedures, the design of components, their dimensioning and the verification of stability are feasible.
That means, that in harmonized product standards EUROCODES can be referred to and that the CE-marking of a construction product can depend on whether the necessary design steps are based on the EUROCODES, or not .
Thus, a calculation based on the procedures given in the EUROCODES allows to prove conformity with a standard.
