ÖNORM EN 1998-4|Silos, tanks + pipelines
EN 1998-4 aims at providing principles and application rules for the seismic design of silos, tanks and pipelines, as well as for independent items, such as for example single water towers serving a specific purpose or groups of silos enclosing granular materials, etc. Because of the complexity of the content, some detailled calculation methods for typical application cases are given in the Annexes.
This standard may also be used as a basis for evaluating the resistance of existing facilities and to assess any required strengthening.
EN 1998-4 includes the additional criteria and rules required for the seismic design of structures without restrictions on their size, structural types and other functional characteristics. This standard may not be complete for those facilities associated with large risks to the population or the environment, for which additional requirements shall be established by the competent authorities.
